Training of Health Promoters

On 25 September 2025, we conducted a full-day training session for health promoters on the topic of national screening programs and health-risk behavior as part of the ShowUp4Health project. The event took place at the Health Promotion Centre Murska Sobota. The content of the training was prepared and delivered by the colleagues of the Health Promotion Centre Murska Sobota, which operates under the Health Centre Murska Sobota. The training was attended by nine Roma health promoters, the coordinator of activities for the Roma population, and a representative of the project partner, Centre for health and development Murska Sobota.

The first part of the training was dedicated to introduction with the national screening programs that are already underway or still in preparation. The training content was prepared and delivered by Blanka Dugar, a registered nurse with specialized knowledge.

Participants were first introduced to the national screening programs already in place: Dora, Zora and Svit. The presentation covered which target groups are invited to participate in the screening programs, the conditions they must meet, and the goals we aim to achieve by implementing these programs.

In the final part of the first session, participants learned about the Peter screening program, which is intended exclusively for men, as it focuses on reducing the incidence of prostate cancer. The program is still in the research and screening-testing phase. Also still in development is the Luka screening program, intended for the general population for detecting lung cancer, which is very common among adults in Slovenia. We also discussed general advice on cancer prevention related to a healthy lifestyle and health promotion, not only for individuals but for society as a whole.

The second part of the training for health promoters focused on introduction of health-risk behavior. This part was prepared by Barbara Rola, Master of Psychology. At the beginning, participants were presented with data on risk factors, tobacco use, harmful effects of smoking and mortality resulting from excessive use of tobacco products.

We were also introduced to the programs offered at the Health Promotion Centre, where individuals can receive support for quitting smoking. We learned in detail about the workshop content designed for the target group and the goals we aim to achieve through such activities. The workshops can be conducted
